ID#: 450

SoundPrism 05 (2017) ; 11:10

by Douglas Scott

Independent Artist

In 2013 I decided I wanted to begin a “SoundPrism” series: electroacoustic compositions which would each explore the timbral possibilities within a narrow range of specific set of acoustically-recorded source material. In SoundPrism 05, I chose close-miked piano notes played in a traditional fashion (i.e. no plucked strings, etc.). The source recordings are transformed in a multitude of different ways and then placed or moved around within a synthetic acoustic environment.

Douglas Scott

Douglas Scott fell in love with electronic music as a young boy and built his first analog synthesizer as a home project at age 16. He began formal studies in theory and composition at the University of California, Los Angeles where his primary teachers were Paul Reale and Alden Ashforth. He continued his studies at Indiana University with Frederick Fox and at Columbia University with Jack Beason and Mario Davidovsky. Because of his interest in computers as musical tools, he became deeply involved with computer software and technology, and pursued a career as an audio software designer. Recently he has returned to composing full time. He has had electroacoustic works played at ICMC events in 1992, 2005, and 2022.
